Hello everyone! Thank you for taking the time to check out our Pollinator Project & Contest. This project is being sponsored by Union County, Indiana Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD). Union County, SWCD is sending out by mail packets of wildflower seeds for pollinators, a marking stick that you and/or children can decorate, and an information booklet from USDA on pollinators. (You can see what comes in the packet below in the picture.) We have three varieties of wildflowers that you can choose from. All flower seeds in the mixtures are non-invasive species. The packets you receive will contain seed, mulch, and fertilizer. Do not use herbicides weeks before or after planting. Preparing the soil, you need to rake the area to remove thatch, dead grass, and debris. Second step is to apply the seed packet to the prepared soil. Each packet will cover a 3 foot by 3 foot area. Next water the area with a watering can or with a watering hose with the nozzle set to mist. For best results plant when there is no danger of frost and soil continuously maintains a temperature above 60 degrees.Union County, SWCD is sponsoring contest(s) for the Best Designed Wildflower Marker and/or Photo Contest for Best Grown Wildflowers.
